Canton Fair: The World's Largest Trade Show

Hello, I'm Hesham. If you're a business buyer looking for Chinese suppliers, the Canton Fair (广交会) in Guangzhou is the #1 event you must attend. Running since 1957, it's the oldest and largest comprehensive trade fair in the world. I've attended dozens of sessions over the years, and in this guide, I'll share everything you need to know for 2026.

Quick Answer

Canton Fair runs twice a year in Guangzhou (Pazhou), 3 phases per session (electronics, then consumer goods, then garments). Registration is free online, and hotels near the fair surge 3-4x — book in Tianhe (¥300-600) instead of Pazhou (¥500-1200).

  • Phase 2: April 23-27 (Consumer goods, home furnishings, gifts, décor)

How to Register

  • Online registration: via cantonfair.org.cn. You'll need your passport and business card. Registration is free for buyers.
  • Badge pickup: Print your badge online or collect it from registration desks at the fair.
  • Pro tip: Register at least 2 weeks in advance. On-site queues can be very long.

Location & Getting There

The fair is held at the Canton Fair Complex (琶洲展馆) in Pazhou district:

  • Metro: Pazhou Station (Line 8) — right at the entrance.
  • From Airport: Guangzhou Baiyun Airport → Metro Line 3, transfer to Line 8 (~90 minutes, ¥12).
  • Taxi: From city center, about ¥40-80.

Golden Tips from My Experience

  • Wear comfortable shoes: The venue is massive (1.18 million sqm). Expect 15,000-20,000 steps daily.
  • Bring lots of business cards: You'll hand out 50-100 per day. Print them in English and Chinese if possible.
  • Don't buy on Day 1: Compare prices and quality across multiple suppliers before deciding.
  • Photograph samples: Take pictures and notes for every supplier (company name, booth number, price).
  • Negotiate wisely: Initial prices are always negotiable. Ask for volume discounts and understand MOQ (Minimum Order Quantity).
  • Beware the "perfect sample": Fair samples can differ from bulk production. Always request pre-shipment quality inspection.

Accommodation During the Fair

  • Pazhou area (near the fair): Most convenient but prices surge 3-4x during the fair! Book 2 months ahead. Average: ¥500-1200/night.
  • Tianhe district: Slightly cheaper, 30 minutes by metro. ¥300-600/night.
  • Tip: Use Trip.com or Booking.com for early-bird discounts.

Halal Food During the Fair

Guangzhou has excellent halal food options, especially in the Xiaobei (小北) area. Inside the fair venue, there are restaurants with diverse options. My advice: bring snacks (nuts, fruit) as venue prices are inflated.
