💡 Tip: Canton Fair Phase 1 runs twice a year — April and October — for 5 days each time. This guide covers how to make the most of those 5 days, whichever edition you're attending.

Why Phase 1 Is the Most Important Phase for Arab Buyers

I'm Hesham — I've been living in China since 2019 and I've attended Canton Fair multiple times. Phase 1 is different from the rest of the fair: this is where the biggest suppliers of electronics, industrial machinery, and building materials gather under one roof. If you're importing tech products, sourcing industrial equipment, or buying construction materials for the Gulf market, Phase 1 is your only essential stop.

Quick Answer

Phase 1 (5 days, April and October) is your only essential stop if you import electronics, industrial machinery, or building materials. Start with the consumer electronics halls (2.1, 3.1), and never make payments on the fair floor before verifying the supplier.

Hall Map: Where Exactly to Go

Key Halls in Phase 1

  • Hall 2.1 & 3.1: Consumer Electronics — smartphones, TVs, smart home devices, and major appliances. Highest demand in Gulf and Arab markets.
  • Hall 1.1 & 1.2: Industrial electronics and telecom equipment.
  • Hall 5.1 & 6.1: Industrial Machinery — pumps, generators, manufacturing equipment. Essential for factories and workshops.
  • Hall 9.1 & 10.1: Building Materials — tiles, ceramics, sanitary ware, doors, and windows. Massive demand from Gulf construction projects.
  • Hall 11.1: Lighting — chandeliers, LED systems, mosque lighting, commercial fixtures.
  • Hall 12.1: Auto parts and electric vehicles.

5-Day Strategy

Time is tight — don't waste a single day. Here's my recommended plan:

  • Day 1: Consumer electronics halls (2.1, 3.1). Collect business cards, don't negotiate yet — explore and evaluate.
  • Day 2: Home appliances and smart devices. Start negotiating with the suppliers that impressed you yesterday.
  • Day 3: Machinery halls (5.1, 6.1). These visits take longer — give them a full day.
  • Day 4: Building materials and lighting (9.1, 10.1, 11.1). Dense but very productive.
  • Day 5: Follow-up day — return to your shortlisted suppliers, close negotiations, collect catalogs and samples.

Practical Tips for the Floor

  • Arrive early: Halls open at 9 AM. The first couple of hours are the quietest and you get real face time with suppliers.
  • Use the official Canton Fair app: Search suppliers in advance, map your route, and save favourite booths.
  • Record short videos at each interesting booth: By day's end you'll forget the details — video saves you significant effort.
  • Add WeChat immediately: This is the standard way to follow up. Add the booth number in the contact note so you remember later.
  • Don't make any payments on the floor: Financial transactions happen after due diligence — never on the spot at the fair.
