CIIE Shanghai 2026: The World's Only Fair Where You Sell TO China
I'm Hesham Al-Daaja from Jordan, based in China since 2019. The China International Import Expo (CIIE — 中国国际进口博览会) is unlike any other trade fair in the world. Every other major fair — Canton Fair, Global Sources, Yiwu — is about buying FROM China. CIIE is the opposite: it's a government-backed platform where international companies exhibit their products to sell INTO the Chinese market.
Quick Answer
CIIE (November 5-10, 2026 expected) in Shanghai is where China shops for your products instead of the other way around — a golden opportunity for Arab exporters of food and agriculture (dates, olive oil, spices, coffee). Registration is free for professional visitors via ciie.org.
What Is CIIE?
CIIE is held every November at the National Exhibition and Convention Center (NECC) in Shanghai. Launched in 2018 by the Chinese government, it's a flagship initiative to demonstrate China's commitment to opening its market, with thousands of participating companies from well over 100 countries each year. The 2026 edition runs November 5–10.
Who Should Come?
CIIE is relevant to you if:
- You manufacture products in the Arab world (dates, olive oil, cosmetics, machinery, food products) and want to enter the Chinese market
- You represent a brand that wants Chinese distributors or retail partners
- You want to meet Chinese buyers and importers looking for foreign products
- You're exploring joint venture opportunities with Chinese companies
The Six Exhibition Zones
- Food & Agricultural Products: The largest zone. Halal food has a strong presence — opportunity for Arab food exporters.
- Consumer Goods: Luxury, fashion, cosmetics, personal care.
- Auto & Transportation
- Technical Equipment
- Medical Equipment & Healthcare
- Services

Attending as a Visitor vs. Exhibitor
Professional visitors can attend free with registration. You can walk the halls, meet exhibitors, and source products for the Chinese market. To exhibit, you need to apply through your country's commerce ministry or directly — spaces sell out 6–8 months in advance for popular categories.
What to Expect
Unlike Canton Fair, CIIE is quieter, more formal, and more oriented toward B2B meetings and partnerships than impulse sourcing. Come with a clear purpose: specific product categories you're looking to import into China, or specific Chinese buyers you want to meet. The government presence is significant — senior officials attend and meet delegations. This gives real authority to deals made at CIIE.
