It's a small city, prices are cheap compared to the big tourist hubs, and the whole vibe is relaxed from the moment you arrive. Enshi Grand Canyon: A Cliffside Walkway You Won't Forget

The canyon (恩施大峡谷) is one of Hubei province's most famous natural landmarks, sometimes called "China's Grand Canyon." It officially opened to visitors in 2010, and its standout feature is the Cliffside Plank Walkway (悬崖栈道) — a wooden path bolted directly into the cliff face at over 1,700 meters altitude, 488 meters long with 118 steps, with a sheer drop of more than 300 meters below you. Every step brings a new view.

The canyon has two main sections: the Yunlong Ground Fissure area (云龙地缝), around ¥50 entry, and the Seven Star Village Scenic Area (七星寨), around ¥120, which includes the cliffside walkway itself. There's also an internal electric shuttle bus for about ¥30. I'd budget at least a full day here.

You can reach it on city buses 12, 28B, 31, 39, or 39B — get off at the "Nv'er Cheng" stop.

The town is also known for the Daughter Festival, a Tujia matchmaking tradition held every year around July on the Chinese lunar calendar — if your trip lines up with it, it's a chance to see an authentic local tradition.

Food in Enshi: Seafood and the Famous Local Tea

Honestly, the food in Enshi surprised me — the seafood was fresher and better than I expected for an inland city. But the one thing you have to try without question is Enshi Yulu tea (恩施玉露) — a well-known local green tea across China, with a distinctive flavor. Buy some before you leave.

Where to Stay: A Mountain Hotel View You Won't Forget

I'd recommend booking a hotel inside the mountain scenic area itself rather than staying in the city center — I woke up on my first morning to a view of the mountains through light mist, and it was one of the best moments of the whole trip. Prices in Enshi are generally cheaper than bigger tourist cities like Guilin or Zhangjiajie, so your budget goes further.
