Halal Food in Guangzhou: The Business Traveler's Guide
Hello, I'm Hesham. The most common question I hear from Arab traders coming to Guangzhou: "Where can I eat halal?" Guangzhou has the largest Arab community in China, and therefore the best halal dining options. Here's my guide from years of experience.
Quick Answer
Guangzhou has the best halal options in China — from cheap Lanzhou noodles (¥15-25) to Lebanese and Turkish restaurants (¥60-150). Book ahead or avoid peak hours during Canton Fair, since restaurants near the venue get extremely crowded.
| Restaurant | Cuisine | Meal Price |
|---|---|---|
| Li Beirut | Lebanese | ¥80-150 |
| Antalya | Turkish | ¥60-120 |
| Xinjiang restaurants | Uyghur | ¥30-60 |
| Lanzhou noodles (兰州拉面) | Chinese halal | ¥15-25 |
Li Beirut: Lebanese Cuisine
An excellent Lebanese restaurant in the Tianhe area. Serves mixed grills, hummus, fattoush, and tabbouleh. High quality with a family-friendly atmosphere, perfect for post-fair business meetings. Meal per person: ¥80-150.
Antalya Turkish Restaurant
A reliable Turkish restaurant serving kebabs, iskender, and pide. An excellent option if you're looking for familiar Middle Eastern food. Reasonable prices and generous portions. Meal per person: ¥60-120.
Xinjiang Uyghur Restaurants
Run by Muslims from Xinjiang (western China). The lamb skewers are excellent, the lagman noodles are delicious, and the fresh nan bread is baked in front of you. Found across the Xiaobei and Sanyuanli areas. Meal per person: ¥30-60.
Lanzhou Halal Noodles (兰州拉面)
These restaurants are everywhere in Guangzhou and across China. Run by Hui Muslims. Classic beef noodle soup in hot broth. Look for the green sign with a crescent moon. Meal: ¥15-25 only — the cheapest halal option in the city.
Halal Cantonese Dim Sum Experience
A unique experience: dim sum (small steamed Chinese dumplings) in a halal version using beef and chicken instead of pork. A special way to taste authentic Cantonese cuisine the halal way.
Local Cantonese Halal Restaurants
Local Chinese restaurants with halal certification (清真). They serve adapted Cantonese dishes — chicken fried rice, stir-fried vegetables, and traditional soups. An excellent option for those wanting authentic Chinese food with guaranteed halal standards.
