The difference is not just geography — it's the entire buying experience:

Pre-vetted suppliers: The Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) screens exhibitors. You're dealing with established manufacturers, not first-time booth renters.
International business environment: English is widely spoken. Contracts are often in both English and Chinese. Legal disputes have clear channels.
No VPN needed: Hong Kong is outside mainland China's internet firewall. You can use WhatsApp, Google, and your regular banking apps freely.

Practical Tips for the HK Fair

Register early: Pre-registration via HKTDC.com is free and gets you the buyer badge mailed to your address.
Stay in Wan Chai or Causeway Bay: Walking distance from the HKCEC. Hotels are expensive during fair week — book 2-3 months ahead.
Bring USD cash: HK uses HKD but USD is widely accepted. Avoid airport money exchange rates.
Use Octopus Card: The transit card for Hong Kong's MTR (metro). Get one at the airport on arrival.
Schedule factory visits for AFTER the fair: Meet suppliers at the fair, then arrange to visit their mainland factories the following week.
