The Five Rams Legend
The story goes that more than 2,000 years ago, five immortals in colorful robes descended riding five rams carrying sheaves of rice in their mouths. They left the rice as a gift for the local people, blessed the city, and departed — and the rams turned to stone. The current Five Rams Statue was built in 1960 to commemorate the legend: it stands 11 meters tall, carved from more than 130 granite blocks.
What Else Is in the Park?
The park itself is large, and also holds Zhenhai Tower — a Ming-dynasty watchtower that was once part of the old city wall, now home to the Guangzhou Museum. You could easily spend half a day in the park alone, between the lakes, hills, and landmarks.
